Note to self

When disposing of large cartridges of used copier toner, make sure the bottom of the container is sealed tightly before trying to move it.

Convention protesters demand more visible space
"Protesters at the Democratic National Convention say their designated area outside the FleetCenter infringes on their safety and free speech rights....At a news conference Saturday, protesters also complained that the fenced-in area is out of sight to most delegates and passers-by en route to the arena. .."We are very alarmed that our First Amendment rights have been undermined to the degree that the city of Boston now thinks the rights of free expression, the right to rally and protest means you get out into an area like this."

Ya know what? Just shut up already. Stop your bitching. I don't wish for anything bad to happen, but if something HAS to happen, I hope these cry-babies are right in the middle of it. That'll teach them a lesson about sacrificing security.

I'm not sure if the U.S. military goes on summer vacation, but I was in Atlanta airport and there were literally hundreds of soldiers dressed in their little army pajamas at the gates. I don't know if they were being deployed from a base or just returning home as a group, but they were everywhere. It kind of made me laugh. Imagine if you were a terrorist hoping to hijack a plane, and you show up at the gate to see 200 trained U.S. killing machines getting on board with you. Wouldn't that just totally suck for you?

Ha ha. Stupid terrorist.

What I Tawt I Taw

Sometimes when I come home, I find my cat asleep by the window sill. She is curled up in a ball, with her fluffy-wuffy tail wrapped around her body just about tickling her nose. Sometimes her head is tossed back a bit, and her face is tucked under her widdle-biddy kitty-cat paws. And I look down at her and think, "of all God's precious creatures, are there any more peaceful than a cat in a sunbeam?" That's when I want to scream in her ear "A-ha! How do you like it when I wake you up from YOUR nap, you ungrateful furball!"

But I don't.

Most Tiring Birthday Evar

Would you believe I turned 28 today? No? Good for you, because I'm 36.

I ran my first 10K today; this was the "Run White & Blue" event in Long Beach. It was a run along the bike path right on the beach near the Queen Mary, so it was somewhat scenic. But it was a far cry from the Nike Run Hit Wonder we did in April. The Nike run had 15,000 men, women, and children all out for a nice relaxing day of family fitness. Today's run was more like 200 Olympic hopefuls. OK, maybe it wasn't that bad but as soon as I arrived I realized these people were generally a little more hardcore. I felt a bit intimidated and out of place. They just all looked in shape, and I hated every one of them. As the 9:00 start time approached I tried to wander towards the back of line so I wouldn't get in anyone's way. Let's just say that during the run I passed far fewer people than passed me. I certainly didn't finish last; I was probably in the bottom third though.

Still, I am very pleased with my time: I finished in 60:15. Of course, in a way it would have been better if I was a little slower and had a time of 61 or 62 minutes, because now I'm stuck with "if I was just 15 seconds faster I would have broken 1 hour." Oh well.

One way which this run blew the Nike event out of the water was with the snacks. At the finish line, they had the typical Power Bars and Creatine Fruit punch or whatever, but they also had tons of mini bags of CRAP. I took 2 bags of pretzel sticks, a bag of Ruffles and a bag of mini Oreos, which I ate over the next 2 hours or so. According to weight/speed charts, I burned about 750 calories during the run. I scarfed down about 800 calories of junk afterwards. Which means it would have been healthier for me to just stay home in bed.
